5 Signs it’s Time for a New Bra

Wearing a bra that doesn’t fit or is past its prime affects your comfort, posture, as well
as how your clothes fit. Fortunately for all of us with boobs, gone are the days when
most bras were constricting and uncomfortable. It’s possible to find great-fitting,
comfortable, and stylish bra that look great whatever you’re doing, and we’re here to
help you do just that.

When you’re here for a fitting, we’ll ask you what you need to be able to do in your new
bras. Are they “daily drivers”, something for a special date, or something to chase kids
around in? We ask because it determines not only the best styles for your needs, but it
also affects how we fit them.

We like to be able to fit you in a bra on the loosest setting if has an adjustable back.
This extends the wearable life of your bra as even the best bras naturally stretch some
over time. We curate our collection of styles to minimize this, but it nevertheless
happens.

To help your new bras last longest, we recommend hand washing, or machine washing
on gentle, in cold water inside a lingerie bag, but never ever dry them. Laying them flat
to dry is best. If you must hang them, drape them from the middle rather than using the
straps.

Online bra sizers don’t take these things into account. Nearly all of our customers wind
up loving bras in sizes other than what automatic calculators would compute.

Top 5 “Need a New Bra” Indicators:

  1. Recent Body Changes: Significant changes in weight (gain or loss), pregnancy,
or hormonal fluctuations can alter your breast size and shape. So many of our
customers have lost weight recently, and their bras are gapping in the cups,
riding up in the back, and just not providing any support. Bra cup shapes and
sizes vary by style and brand and are most assuredly not one-size-fits-all.
  2. The Band is Stretched Out: The band should provide at least 80% of the bra’s
support. Some major brands (we’re looking at you, VS) use very cheap materials
for the bands which shorten the life of their bras. If your bra feels loose it’s likely
time for a replacement as it’s no longer offering proper support. Look in a mirror
and raise your arms up over your head. If your breasts peek out from under the
band, your bra needs to be replaced.
  3. Spillage Over the Cups or Sides, or Gapping/Wrinkling in the cups: If breast
tissue is bulging out the top, sides, or under the armpit, the cups are too small,
not to mention how uncomfortable it is to wear. Softer breast tissue that results
from weight loss or hormone fluctuations also affect the cup size and shape that
will fit best. Never fear, we’re now stocking several new styles specifically
designed to fit softer breast tissue.
  4. Your Style or Activity Needs Have Changed: Many of us gave up structured
bras during the pandemic. But well-fitting bras needn’t be uncomfortable! If
you’ve started a new workout routine (requiring a supportive sports bra) or need
different bras for specific outfits (like a plunge, strapless, or t-shirt bra), we’ll help
you update to your collection. A professional fitting is a great first step to finding a
comfortable, supportive new bra. We’re here to help you find your perfect match.
  5. The Bra is Simply Old: We recommend replacing your heavily-rotated bras
every 6 to 12 months (or after about 180 wears), as the elastic naturally breaks
down over time even when properly cared for.
