The Doctor is In (the Shop, Not the Office)
If you’ve spent any time in Humboldt County over the last forty years, there’s a good chance we’ve crossed paths. I’m Dr. Melinda Myers, and while I’ve officially retired from the classroom at Cal Poly Humboldt, I’ve realized I’m never going to stop being a teacher. It’s just how I’m wired.
You’d be forgiven if you didn’t realize that Good Relations has been around for 42 years. I spent the first ten years doing home parties, and I saw firsthand what was missing: a space that felt like a boutique but acted like a classroom.
Here’s the deal…
I didn’t teach the science of sex, gender, and the importance of statistics to 10,000 students just for the fun of it. I did it because facts matter. And that’s exactly how I run the shop.
I’ve never been interested in “selling toys” for the sake of it. My background in science is my secret weapon—it’s my BS detector. This industry is full of blatant misogyny and “miracle” gimmicks, and I’m looking at the data to filter it out. If a product isn’t anatomically sensible and chemically safe—silicone over everything, please—it doesn’t get near my shelves.
No Fluff, Just Facts
Between the university lectures and the shop, I also spent sixteen years in private psychotherapy practice. That’s a lot of hours spent listening to what makes humans tick.
So, I’m not here to give you a sales pitch or some fancy “prescription.” Whether you were one of my students back in the day, a long-time local, or you just stumbled onto our site, you’re getting the same version of me:
